Statistical review of wool sold in SA

Cape Wools SA (CWSA) released latest statistics and gives a statistical review of wool sold in SA for the 2014/15 season.

The total production of all wool sold in South Africa reached 40 452 896kg with a sale value of R2 571 006 423, with the production of Merino wool making up the largest portion of the total, namely 28 846 170 with sales value of R2 050 293 810. 

The most important wool producing districts originates from the Western Cape namely Bredasdorp producing 1 096 491kg of Merino wool, followed by Caledon with 1 071 921 and Swellendam with 832 145.  These figures are slightly lower that last year with Bredasdorp at 1 342 641, Caledon at 1 357 729 and Swellendam at 1 222 608.

Barkly East is the highest wool producing district in the Eastern Cape with 733 448kg, Calvinia in the Northern Cape with 487 859kg, Lady Brand in the Free State with 818 699kg, Ermelo in Mpumalanga with 506 705kg and Mount Currie in KwaZulu Natal with 217 153kg, followed by Utrecth with 66 195.
